This gorgeous woman came to me with visions of a red and white wedding at Novotel Twin Waters. As with all our brides, we constantly try to allow a broader perspective of possibilities when it comes to using flowers to enhance the space or look of their bridal party. The 80s saw a lot of bi-colour schemes and a lot of ‘matching’ colour theorums that definitely contributed to teal cumber buns and bow ties…gone are those days! Thankfully the wedding scene has evolved to present a far more sophisticated and elegant, artful and creative opportunity to showcase your personalities and shared vision for the big day.
When a couple ask us about colours and which ones to use to ‘match’ their dresses, we always say instead that we’d like to ‘compliment’ the dresses - you’ll never match a synthetic dye to any naturally grown flower. In the case of this couple, the red and white was a must, but in order to soften the contrast between the two colours, we suggested some varying shades of red - burgundy, tomato and velvet. Then we added a softer antique to tone it down and help blend the reds and whites without it looking too stark. Teamed with a heap of beautiful, textural foliage and different varieties of blooms, we can create a look that is in keeping with their vision, but dares to add a little more in terms of interest, depth and natural form.
