It’s been a manic wedding season, with GLR being the busiest yet in what has been one roller coaster of a ride! Still more weddings to come this year, but I thought I would share with you this gorgeous boho wedding GLR had the privilege of providing florals for. Maleny Retreat is fast becoming one of the Sunshine Coast’s hotspots for marquee weddings and country gatherings – with no limit on the number of guests allowed! Another aspect about this special place is that you have full run to make the event uniquely yours – from the choice of cutlery to the band that plays; the ceremony location and the reception backdrop – you name it – you get it (with a little imagination and preferably a wedding planner to assist with the details!!!)
Jess came to me wanting a floral crown the likes I’ve not really done before. I’m used to crowns being evenly distributed with elements, (so they don’t get lopsided), dainty flowers and soft foliage. Jess wanted something completely bold and overstated – “uneven and with big blooms on the side of my forehead”. Trial bouquets are something I’ve done before, but trial hair wreath – no. So Jess asked me for one and I of course thought that it was a wonderful idea! I’m so glad we did one, because the gorgeous one I did the first time wasn’t nearly big and bold enough for what Jess had in mind. She took it gratefully of course (she’s so sweet), and when she did the hair trial, it looked beautiful. She agreed – but it simply wasn’t bold and ‘wild’ enough.
The day of the wedding came, and up at the crack of dawn, I set about creating this enormous floral crown that would adorn Jess gorgeous head. I have to admit, despite the beautiful blooms, I was nervous to drop it off because I couldn’t believe that the ‘wildness’ of the crown I’d created was going to be too much for her…that it would be too over the top. I was actually REALLY nervous!!!
Anyway, with Michael Gray behind the lens, and these beautiful photos that Jess shared, I feel confident that it all worked superbly, and it suited this bubbly personality perfectly. Being a florist we don’t always see the other elements that a couple are incorporating into their big day – until we see the photos later down the track. I love the Maypole, the dog, the dress and the way the photos capture such an effervescent, colourful and down to earth wedding. Thanks for the photos Jess!
