Maria was one of those gorgeous personalities that gives so much vibrant energy and enthusiasm, that it was almost unthinkable that finding blue anemones was going to be a hard task. On the day I went to the markets to source my gorgeous blue fleurs, there were field bluebells aplenty, light blue to dark blue delphinium spires and blue hyacinth that made your head turn with its scent. I saw red anemones, white anemones…coral anemones…”Where are the blue ones?!?!?!?” I left the markets in defeat, thinking to myself that of all the flowers I should have been able to find - blue anemones were a given (there were a tonne the week before…)
Once back on the coast, I went to visit my good friend and flower obsessed wholesaler, Lauren from Suncoast Flowers. Wandering into her cold room to raid what I could of the seasons foliage or other little ‘gems’ I hadn’t been able to procure from the markets, I was struck with delight, when out of the corner of my eye, the royal blue anemone I had so much trouble finding in Brisbane was there - staring at me from the cold room floor in a bucket of water alongside silver chimes and chincherincree…
Oh my stars! I knew my grandma was sitting on my shoulder, because now I could create the perfect royal blue bouquet for my gorgeous bride and her pretty maid…
